Wondering what FAC's 2021 Virtual Benefit is all about?
We'll highlight programs that create opportunity and advance justice in our communities
You will hear from FAC program participants, local leaders, staff and partners in these FAC Stories of Resilience and Justice:
FAC Solar
FAC Solar’s Manager, Kedin Kilgore, will tell the story of how FAC, in collaboration with solar development and funding partners, has created a model to implement solar in housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers, allowing tenants and the affordable housing benefit from cost savings. We’ll also hear from job training graduates who are now employed and building careers in the solar industry.
FAC COVID Relief Fund
Yannerys Castillo, FAC’s Community Services Manager will tell the story of how FAC responded rapidly and creatively to meet the urgent needs of local residents during the COVID pandemic. FAC created and launched a COVID Relief Fund which provided funds for burial expenses, rental assistance, electronic equipment and Wi-Fi, phone bills, emergency food, medication costs and other unexpected costs associated with COVID-19.
FAC's New Americans Sunset Park Bridge Program
FAC’s Associate Director for Adult Education, Brian Mendes, will talk about how FAC’s Bridge Program integrates adult education and Brooklyn Workforce Development’s (BWI) workforce development training to help non-native English speakers build their language skills and prepare for careers in commercial driving and cable installation. Hear from program graduates - immigrants in and around Sunset Park – about their experience with the program and how it has impacted their lives.
Attorney General Letitia James will join us to congratulate our awardees and share her vision for New York's post COVID recovery
We will honor FAC partners whose work improves our communities
FAC will present two partner awards to honor two extraordinary partners' work and impact.
2021 Partnership Award : Wells Fargo has been a critical partner for FAC, supporting the development and completion of our Northeastern Towers Annex affordable housing project for low-income seniors in Jamaica, Queens. Working with FAC and our joint venture development partners, Northeast Conference of Seventh Day Adventists and Mega Development, Wells Fargo provided $37 million in tax credit equity from investors as well as a letter of credit. Wells Fargo is also the construction lender on the project. Page Travelstead, Managing Director, Community Lending & Investment, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A will accept the award
2021 Community Impact Award : We honor Michael Stamatis, President & CEO of Red Hook Container Terminal, for his outstanding work to support large scale food distribution and for providing donated staff time and goods —including thousands of pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables, poultry, and other staple food items - to local communities and residents impacted by the pandemic.
We will hear from friends and staff who have helped our community to thrive
FAC’s Board Co-Chairs, Melanie Ash and Pristine Johannessen, FAC Board Treasurer and event emcee, Juan Barahona, and Executive Director Michelle de la Uz will acknowledge our supporters and speak about our experiences during this challenging year. Their remarks will highlight how, although we have been socially distant from each other, we are all interdependent upon each other – working together to fight for what we value most – our health, our families, our communities and our democracy.
